Rain forests : sustainable forest management

Do it well, do it right

We strongly believe that our principal of good practise and our fundamental desire to be socially responsible is our long term guarantee of continued success. Companies which can balance their environmental credetials with their shareholders requirements will be the ones which grow and achieve their goals in the twenty first centuary. We are well placed to do this and, by participating with the purchase of trees, you can also take part.

We do not claim to have a zero impact on the environment. It would be impossible to operate and have no impact. But we do guarantee to do what we can at all times to minimise our impact on all aspects of our working environment. Obviously by harvesting timber from a plantation we are reducing the need to remove timber from natural rain forests.

Our door is always open to you or anyone involved in our programme to come and see what we are doing.

Our programme does not claim to solve the problems of deforestation. Please take time to understand that the programme involves the reforestation of land, which was previously deforested as a restult of deforestation practises, with plantations.

A plantation is not natural in the sense that a selection of species of trees are planted in an ordered way to maximise growth and timber production potential. In a perfect world we would reforest by allowing natural forest to return with the assistance of random planting of hundreds of species. At this point we must separate dreams and reality. A company has to make a profit in order to survive and investors like you want to make a healthy return. Don't forget that we undertake to reforest natural areas as well. Plantations are not perfect but we believe they are the best alternative. Compare a wind farm and a coal powered power station: We want energy so must accept the limited environmental imapact of the wind farm as opposed to the dirty power station.
